Visitors to Malaysia must have a passport or other internationally recognised documents with a validity of at least six months. This applies when visiting East Malaysia, i.e. Sabah and Sarawak. Visa is not required for most foreigners and visitors. |

Dutiable goods brought into the country may be imposed with a refundable deposit of up to 50% of its value. Cameras, cassette players, cosmetics, lighters, pens, perfumes and watches are among non-dutiable items allowed into Malaysia. |

For residents and non-resident travellers, approval is needed for carrying more than RM1, 000 in cash notes when leaving the country. While resident travellers are required to have permission to take out of the country amounts equivalent to more than RM10, 000 in foreign currency, non-resident travellers are not. |

Items such as firearms and phonographic materials are strictly prohibited. Possession or trafficking of illicit drugs is punishable with mandatory death sentence upon conviction. |
