Dataran Merdeka (Labuan Square).
Formerly known as Victoria Town, flags of all the Malaysian states flutter
beside the town field. The historical events of Labuan are recorded on four
headstones while there are four flame-of-the-forest trees that were planted in
1953. |

The Financial Park Complex. This
17-storey complex with a built-up area of one million square feet serves as a
landmark for the island’s status as an international offshore financial centre.
It is the most impressive building in Labuan with office blocks, boutiques,
departmental stores and cinemas housed under one roof. The convention hall is
an ultra modern facility that can seat 1,500 people. An integrated working and
living environment with facilities and services like broadband
telecommunications are provided in this complex. |

An’nur Jamek Mosque. It has a
futuristic design and also symbolises the progressive spirit of the people of
Labuan.

|
Labuan Market. Labuan Market
comes alive every morning. Located right in the heart of Labuan town, the
market is full of exotic colours, sights, smells and sounds. Local fruits,
vegetables, fresh spices, seafood and rattan ware are offered here for sale. |

|
Kampung Air (Water Village). There
are two main water villages here – Kampung Bebuloh and Kampung Patau-Patau.
Most of their residents are Brunei Malays. The wooden houses are built on
stilts over water and linked to each other by wooden walkways.

Labuan
Sikh Temple. Modelled after the famous Golden Temple in Amritsar,
India, the Labuan Sikh temple was built in 1957. |

Kwong Fook Kung Temple. Built in
1952, Kwong Fook Kung Temple is the pride of the Chinese community in Labuan.
It is a hive of activity every March, with numerous traditional festivals
celebrated with admirable fervors take place on the island. |

Water World |
|
|
Marine Park. The islands of
Rusukan Kecil, Rusukan Besar and Kuraman are located only two kilometres off
the southern part of Labuan Island. The clean sandy
beaches on these islands are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. |

Pohon
Batu Beach. This is the place for swimming and water sports. It is a
beautiful beach lined with casuarinas and palm trees. |

Historical & Heritage |
|
|
War Memorial. Beautifully
landscaped, this is Malaysia’s largest war cemetery place. It is a memorial for
the 3,900 Allied soldiers who lost their lives during World War II. A section
is also dedicated to the Indian soldiers of the Punjab Regiment. Remembrance
Day is a day when a memorial service is held every year on the Sunday closest
to November 11th. |

Tanjung Kubong Tunnel. This is
the site of a productive coal mining industry during its time, which started in
1847 and ended in 1912. There are many tunnels and deep wells that run through
it. |

The Chimney. Standing at 106
feet high, The Chimney is Labuan’s most famous landmark erected in the 1800s.
The purpose of this chimney remains a mystery but a recent archaeological
research found no indication that it served as a chimney. |

|
Surrender Point. Situated next
to Peach Park, Surrender Point was built in remembrance of the surrender of the
Japanese Army to the Australian 9th Division on September 9, 1945. The
surrender led to the end of World War II in Borneo. |

Flora & Fauna |
|
|
Labuan Bird Park. Located near
Tanjung Kubong Tunnel, the bird park is home to a diverse range of tropical
birds from around the region like the hornbill, kingfishers, shamas, mynas,
herons, ostriches and peacocks. |
|
|
Peace Park. This beautifully
landscaped park, also at Kampung Layang-Layangan was built as a remembrance to
the dread of war. The focal point of the place is a huge man-made mound with a
headstrong message against the history of confrontations and bloody battles.

|
Labuan Horse Riding Centre.
Located at Kampung Layang-Layangan, this is the only horse-riding facility on
the island and is open to the public. |
