|
Kangar. The state capital is a
charming small town where everything is within walking distance. Verdant green
fields and golden yellow paddy fields surround this place. |

Arau. This majestic royal town is
located 10 km south of Kangar, is home to the royal palace, Istana Arau and the
state mosque, Masjid Negeri. This is also the disembarkation point for visitors
to and from Langkawi Island. |

Water World |
|
|
Tasik Melati. Tasik Melati is a
small but picturesque lake located in a lowland area about 8 km north of Kangar
with about 150 sandbar islands filled with fish. With elevated walkways over
the waters, visitors can take strolls or ride in sampans (wooden boats) to the
sandbar islands. |

Nature's Trail |
|
|
Perlis State Park. Spanning over
5,000 hectares, this park is made up of two forest reserves, Mata Ayer and Wang
Mu. Ecologists have special scientific interest in this park because of its
unique geology encompasses limestone structures that give rise to a rare
biodiversity. The park straddles the Nakawan Range, the longest continuous
range of limestone hills in the country. It is also the home to the
stumped-tail macaque. Registration at the park’s Visitors’ Centre is a must
before exploring the reserves. Adventure seekers can check out the various
trails in this park like the R-15 to Wang Kelian which offers a fabulous view
of the surrounding countryside including Timah Tasoh Lake and Bukit Chabang.
More adventurous ones can trek all the way to Wang Burma Caves that are within
the park. |

Gunung Medan. Gunung Medan, about
6 km south of Kangar, is a scenic 300-feet-high limestone outcrop. It is
accessible by car on a winding road or on foot by stairways and walkways going
up to the peak. |

Gua Kelam (Dark Caves) Recreational Park.
Located about 26 km from Kangar, the Gua Kelam traverse approximately 37 meters
of limestone hills from Kaki Bukit on the Malaysian border to Wang Kelian near
the Thai border. The caves were at one time used as a trading route between the
locals and the Siamese.

Bukit Kubu Recreational Park (Hutan Lipur
Bukit Kubu). This is a recreational park with a limestone cave in
the Wang Pinang Hill and surrounded by natural reserve. Permission from the
Perlis Forestry Department is required before exploration. |

|
Chuping. Its name is taken from a
limestone hill called Bukit Chuping. This town is surrounded by 22,000 hectares
of sugar plantations, making it the largest sugar producer in the country. The
best time to visit Chuping is in December when these sugarcanes are harvested. |

Historical & Heritage |

Muzium Kota Kayang (Kota Kayangan Museum).
Located next to the burial ground of two 16th century Kedah Sultans, who gave
Perlis its local name, Indera Kayangan. Some artefacts from the Neolithic
period were discovered when excavation works was carried out for the new
museum. Indian-related artifacts were also unearthed at this site. |

Masjid Syed Alwi (Syed Alwi Mosque)
. Located near Persiaran Jubli Emas, this mosque with traditional Islamic
architecture and neo-classical western arts is named after the predecessor of
the present Sultan.

State Museum & Heritage Hall.
Housed in the State Heritage Complex, the museum has an interesting exhibits
and illustrations of the historical, cultural and economical developments of
Perlis. |

|
Malay Age Weaponry Museum. This
is the latest attraction in Perlis and a great collection of Malay weaponry is
showcased here. |

Flora & Fauna |
|
|
Snake and Reptile Farm. This
research facility is also a home to more than 20 species of snakes, monitor
lizards and crocodiles. Surrounded by Bukit Bintang Forest Reserve, the farm
has open-air enclosures and closed exhibits. It is open from 8.00am-4.00pm,
from Tuesdays to Sundays. |

Taman Herba (Herbal
Gardens). Covering an area of 12 hectars, this place showcases more
than 6,000 species of herbs, spices and medicinal plants. Locate near the Bukit
Air recreational Park, Taman Herba also has some collections of exotic spice
plants from other countries. |
