  Kinabatangan River Cruise
We have just returned from the most incredible experience in the rainforest at Kinabatangan. We stayed at a lodge on the river which is the longest in Malaysia and took part in several river trips, walks in the forest in day time and night time. The highlight was our last evening river trip when Nelson - our guide, found a solitary male orang utang chilling out in a tree
on the edge of the river. He was about 30 years old, with the full leathery 'mask' and took absolutely no notice of us whatsoever. It was INCREDIBLE! He looked as if he had no cares
in the world, he was perched in a fork in the tree, with lots of fruit growing around him,
so no need to move much. Wow!

  Angkor Wat
Siem Reap feels like a really western town and its much more westernised than Phnom Penh. We have spent the last 3 days looking round loads of temples obviously including the amazing Angkor Wat. There are loads of temples and until you arrive you don''t realise how spread out they all are.. They are all different but the size of Angkor is massive and the view is amazing especially at sunrise. We also visited at sunset but there was a massive thunderstorm storm so that was a bit of a wash out!

It is exhausting walking around in the 40 degree heat but it really was spectacular..

We've really enjoyed Cambodia but tommorrow we are braving the dirt track 12hour bus ride to Bangkok where apparently we get scammed at the boarder so we''re looking forward to that!!

  A city of ruins
A 6hr bus ride and we're making our way South again. In its prime this city was the centre of rule in Thailand. These days it's a city of ruins that stretch over a vast area. Fortunately you can hire bikes to get around and see everything......Dan insisted that we have the "Turbo Choppers" and not just the standard shoppers!! (The turbo on mine didn't seem to be working after the previous 2 days trekking though!)

So we spent the whole day yesterday riding around and racing each other....oh yeah, and being cultural and viewing the magnificent ruins! We also ventured off into the countryside which was a nice relief....bright green rice paddies, houses on stilts, beautiful flowers and massive butterflies (bigger than your hand - amazing!).

Today we're just chilling until our bus back to Bangkok, which leaves at 11pm......we'll then spend a few days in Kanchanaburi (home to the famous Bridge over the River Kwai) and then we fly to Vietnam (as long as our visas and passports are still at the embassy when we return to Bangkok...eeek!!) We'll do Southern Thailand later on!

Mount Fuji - 5th Station on Mount Fuji
It is so beautiful here!! We are staying in a traditional Japanese room and there is a hot bath overlooking Mount Fuji. Today we took a bus up to the 5th station on the mountain which had the most amazing views, see photos!! We only had a few hours so after taking our photos we decided to go on a Bear Grylls expedition into the snow where no one dares to tread at this time of year..The Japanese only climb the mountain in July and August and never do anything at the wrong time! We wandered into the snow with our picnic and found a beautiful viewing platform after ending up 2 foot down in the snow in some places. Then I told Steve there were snow bears around and he got scared!! It felt we were the only people in the world who had ever sat there and the view of the summit was amazing all covered in snow! 5th station is at 2305m so not as high as we'll be at Everest but still amazing!! Our trek must have tired us out coz we slept all the way back on the bus!!

This evening we have been for a run around Lake Kawaguchi co which was is also lovely with brilliant views of the mountain.

Its a ghost town here because its out of season so we ate from 7-11...not very Japanese!!

Tomorow we are off to Osaka ..........
